Las Cosas De La Vida- The Things of Life

Why do things sound so much better in Spanish? If you are arguing, the argument sounds more passionate in Spanish, if you are being all "romantical" it too sounds very passionate.... Just a random thought of mine after translating the title of this blog. So, the last post was on July 22, which puts me on a 4 day blog diet. Intentional refusal to write? Well, kinda and I am not making any excuses. In the last 4 days I worked out 2 times and was semi-productive in the healthy eating aspect of my diet. I am a firm believer that when there is chaos in one's life, it is extremely difficult to get a routine going. Being that routine is NOT part of my new life right now, I am sticking to this as much as I can. After moving 1,300 miles, I am moving once again to another apartment, which will hopefully bring much more stability in my life before I begin working. I am happy we found a place and are moving at least a week before I start work. This will truly help me continue my weight loss goal. Weight wise I am seeing some progress. I started at 173 pounds and now I am down to 171 or 2 pounds lighter in 1 week. At this rate, I will be at my goal 2 weeks shy of Christmas day. I know it will get much more difficult along the way, but I am willing to take this roller coaster ride. I almost forgot to mention that I found a very cool weight loss tool in none other that a 99 Cent Store. If you haven't shopped at a 99 Cent store before you have no idea what useful crap you can find here. If you dig through the rubble long enough, you find hidden treasures. Mine was an "8-A-Day" water bottle which holds exactly that- 8 glasses of water!!! This is great because if I fill this bad boy up with H2O and drink the contents of it daily, I will be drinking enough water to remain hydrated all day long. Exciting in the world of dieting, right? (The sarcasm reeks from my pores). I will run/walk 4 miles today or maybe bike ride for a 9 mile if we go to the beautiful park by the lake. Where ever the day takes me, exercise WILL be a priority. Why? because my life is my priority and if I love myself as much as I claim to, I will stick to this goal. Bon Voyage my friends and feel free to ask questions about what the specifics of my dieting and exercise, which are easily doable.

Discotheque Party in My casita. Anyone interested??

Well, I said I was going to power walk 4 miles today...I lied. What I did do was the following:

1. Had a disco jam with my toddler and husband for an hour. No, we didn't simply play dance with him...I was sweating. First off I purchased the David Guetta Album "One Love"on Itunes. Then, I blasted the stereo system and told my little dance machine it was time to party. We danced for a little over an hour. There was even a special appearance by my husband's probing flashlight he uses for work. The baby had a phenomenal time, and we did too. We also ran around the apartment like little maniacs and used the 12-pound sand ball to do sit-ups and stretches. The baby tried to lift it once, but I was concerned he would fall or get a hernia since the ball IS almost half of what the poor kid weighs. My 2 kids, husband included, had a great time. Little did the baby know that we had a mischievous plot against him- to tire him so that he would fall a'sleep before midnight for the second time this summer. (yes I am to blame for this since the paid summer vacations as a teacher mean staying up all night and sleeping-in until noon). The plot worked and he is STILL sleeping.

2. The disco jam cut my power walk plans in half. If you did the math, I power walked for 2 miles instead of 4 miles in 24 minutes. Considering I used to speed walk (UP HILL) FOR 2 miles in less than 15 minutes when I was in good health, I know I have a long way to go. However, I am determined to not dwell on numbers. This reminds me of a Dr. Ozz episode I briefly watched a few months ago. The sexy guru of "health for dummies" said that one should not be concerned with weight #'s, but rather waist #'s. What he then began to explain to us "not so intelligent and healthy looking souls" is that people, myself included, tend to dwell on how much they weigh instead of the size of their waist. Without going off on a tangent about the episode, what I was trying to get to was that certain numbers mean jack when it comes weight loss. It is all about how you feel and how your clothes fit in the end! After all, doesn't muscle weigh more than fat (Don't quote me on this)??? Food for thought friends. OVER AND OUT!!!!!!!!!!!

The Pill Box

So, after watching the movie Timer on Netflicks I went to bed considerably late last night (around 4 AM). I am not mad about it because the movie was great and I highly recommend it. Anyways, this means that I started my day a bit late. It is now 12:36 pm and I am sipping on my fruit & milk smoothie (1 cup of fat free milk, 1 cup of frozen fruit, and 1/2 cup of Fruitables Berry Mix Juice) along with a self-make concoction or cocktail of vitamins I used to take when I lost about 30 pounds a few months ago. The pill box has 7 slots, each containing the following items:

1. Biotin- Good for skin, hair, nails and metabolism 2. Apple Cider Vinegar Tablets- I heard they help with diet loss 3. B-1 Complex- Heart strength and metabolism 4. Woman's 1 a Day- To many benefits to mentions....let's just say it's a multi-vitamin. 5. Flax-Seed Tablets- They make you poop 6. Calcium- helps my bones stay strong for the torture they will endure during my workouts. My "older women" body will thank me 20 years from now, I am sure. 7. Vitamin C gummies- Vitamin C for my immune system and they are gummies because I love gummy candy and this is a way getting this junk in the diet without it hurting me in the long run :)

A friend suggested these vitamins because she had GREAT weight loss (about 90 pounds or more) and her dietitian recommended them.
So there you have it. All of these items are securely placed in a "old-people" pill box I purchased in Vitamin Shoppe. I just place the pills in there perspective slots for the week and drink them once a day in the morning with my smoothie. If I didn't do it otherwise, I would probably forget to take them and this would defy the purpose of spending money on this stuff. Here is a picture of the Pill Box:

I am gonna try and power-walk 4 miles now and then walk to Tom Thumb to buy Truvia (natural Sweetener) and some Benefiber. This shopping and vitamin list makes me seem like an elderly woman who is in desperate need of some colon cleansing. Ha! Well, Tuddle-loo cyber world. I am off on Day 1. Update later tonight :)

Tomorrow Is Day 1

Today marks the beginning of my weight loss journey. Currently I stand @ 5 feet 4 inches tall and weigh 173 pounds. Feels weird typing it here and letting whom ever reads this know my true weight. Come to think of it, I kinda feel violated- as if I were standing naked in front of a crowd of people who know nothing about me except how heavy I am. Now, don't get me wrong, I am not a fat, insecure individual. However, I am in much need of a personal self-esteem booster. Recently I moved over 1,300 miles from my home town, with my 2 year old and husband. This move means a brand new job, life, new friends, and a new me! I figure if I could be bold enough to leave the familiar behind to try and make it on my own in unfamiliar territory, then I could also decide to go back to my pre "20-something" weight of 130-140 pounds. Maybe in the process I will actually learn something about the power of determination, and thus leave my "quarter-century weight crisis" behind and enter my 26+ years with a "sexy" bang!
How will I accomplish a goal of such monumental proportions? Well, first off I will tell you my main goal:

MINUS 40 POUNDS IN 163 day
(July 22, 2010-December 25, 2010)

Easier said than done. Here is the hard part or the things I have to do in order to reach this far fetched goal.

1. Exercise whether I like it or not for an hour a day, four times a week. This constitutes things such as running and speed walking around my LONG residential complex, which has a 2 mile trail, elliptical machine madness, or anything that requires me to sweat and work my way to my size 5-6 pant size dream.

2. Eat 3 square meals a day and 2 snacks. I will figure out what this means as I go on.

3. Allow myself 1 cheat day where I have something I want, and this doesn't only mean food options.

4. Write about the great and horrible days on this blog as often as possible. By writing I hope to to constantly remind myself of my Christmas day goal, which is also my own Christmas Day Present.

Perhaps I can encourage someone else to lose some weight along the way. So let the journey begin tomorrow, July 22, 2010. For now I will enjoy my last taste of junk- a vanilla Frostee from Wendy's. Salud!!!!! and let the journey begin :-)
